The University of Brighton, Hastings is committed to supporting the Creative industries in the local area. The M|E|C provide creatives with access to resources and run a programme of business skills workshops and inspirational industry speakers.

Enterprise Workshop - Selling!

Wednesday 9th May between 2.00 – 4.00pm in room 4.10 at The University of Brighton in Hastings.

At some point in your career, you will have to or have had to ‘sell’ something.  Whether it’s an idea, a product or even yourself - you’ll need to know how to sell the benefits of your offering clearly and concisely. Come along to this workshop to gain some valuable selling tips and build your confidence in this area.

So, how did we do selling you this workshop?

This workshop is delivered by Peter Rock, an established entrepreneur and business owner, who appreciates the specific needs of aspiring entrepreneurs and new business owners. Peter is currently Managing Director of One to One Business Support and Business Development Consultancy, and specialises in sales.

An evening where you get to show your work and see other peoples.
take a raffle ticket as you arrive, and we draw tickets out of a hat.

Open to all types of creatives. Whoever you be, an illustrator, typographer, sculptor etc. we will spend as much time looking at/list...ening to your work as if you are a filmmaker, musician, game designer etc.

If your ticket is drawn, we look at/listen to your work for 3 minutes. We'll have some open space for sculpture, photography, architectural models etc; DVD projection and CD audio with decent speakers if your work is recorded; and a laptop with online access if it's web-based.

M|E|C Speakers presents - Soundcuts - Adele Cutting

19th April 2012 6pm to 8pm

Adele Cutting is a BAFTA award winning Audio Director with a passion for sound, Adele will talk about her 15 year experience specialising in audio for games and providing soundtracks for short films and advertising. Explaining how she progressed once she graduated from the National Film and Television School in Sound (location and post production) to working on the audio for games like Harry Potter and Premiership manager.  Adele will also be discussing the speech production pipeline involved in games development from script design to platform integration.

Free of charge to Media Enterprise Centre members and £5 to non-members.

M|E|C Speakers presents Pesky Productions - Animation

1st March 2012 6pm to 8pm

Claire Underwood - Designer / Director & co-founder of Pesky Productions
Pesky is a multiple award-winning animation studio founded in 1997.  They have produced over 120 projects ranging from simple web games to major cartoon series. Their biggest production 'The Amazing Adrenalini Brothers' shows in over 80 countries and won them a BAFTA in 2005. Claire will be giving a potted history of the company, talking about the production process for a 2D Flash animation series and providing top tips to help you create ideas that will catch the eye of the broadcasters.

This workshop will enable you to discover the fundamentals of business finance and what steps you can take in order to manage your finances more effectively. This session will cover various aspects including cash flow forecasts, balance sheets, pricing and profit and loss.  

This event is part of our Enterprise Workshop programme. These workshops have been designed to assist your professional development by building knowledge and the application of commercial principles, without hampering creative ability. These workshops offer practical guidance from specialist advisers and industry experts.
