Estate and Facilities Management
The Department of Estate and Facilities Management is responsible for the management and development of the university’s estate, in order to maintain and further improve the environment in which members of the university community study, work and live.
The estate comprises over a hundred buildings, located at four main sites – three in the Brighton area, one at Eastbourne. In 2003, there was the addition of the University Centre in Hastings.
This responsibility covers a wide spectrum of essential services including:
- Building maintenance
- Caretaking
- Car parking
- Carbon management
- Cleaning and hygiene services
- Courier and postal services
- Help desk facility
- Security
- Space management
- Sustainable development
- Telecommunications
- Transport
- Waste management
- The procurement and project management of new property developments. Current examples being the planned refurbishment of the Cockcroft Building, the redevelopment of Varley Halls residences and the completion of the Falmer regeneration project.
The department is also responsible for liaison with external partners and agencies on major property developments that create opportunities for the university, or which may have the potential to impact upon its operations.
