Registry
The Registry provides central support for the university's academic administration. The department's responsibilities include the recruitment and admission of students, academic quality assurance and the management of student and course records.
The Registry works closely with
- potential applicants, their advisers and families, as well as current students and graduates
- the university's faculties, schools and most central departments
- a wide variety of external organisations, including the university's partner institutions, educational establishments and local and central government agencies.
The Registry is organised into five divisions to reflect its wide range of activities:
Recruitment and Admissions
- organises recruitment events for prospective students, including university open days
- undertakes outreach work with schools and colleges
- provides an enquiries service for information about the university's courses, application procedures and university life, including prospectuses
- administers the admissions process.
Student Administration and Systems
- administers students' formal registration with the university, including student loans, fees and bursaries (in liaison with the Finance Department and the Student Loans Company)
- manages the central student record and course information systems
- coordinates arrangements for students' formal examinations and graduation, including the annual awards ceremonies
- provides data for management information purposes and for statutory and other returns.
International Office
- international recruitment and development, including representing the university overseas through exhibitions and visits.
Academic Standards and Partnership
- manages academic development, quality assurance and enhancement procedures, including collaborative arrangements with partner institutions
- develops and advises on academic regulations and policies
- administers European exchange programmes
- provides the secretariat for the university's Academic Board and its reporting committees.
Research support
- administers research degree and research training programmes for students and staff
- coordinates the Virtual Research Unit, a central university service for staff submitting research funding applications
- advises on research ethics and governance
- coordinates the Research Assessment Exercise.
Widening Participation
- liaising with external partners in other universities, colleges and local authorities (including membership of the East Sussex and the Brighton & Hove Learning Partnerships)
- bringing together the university’s widening participation strategy and promoting its implementation.

The Registry's main offices are located on the university's Moulsecoomb campus.

Student Administration and Systems are in the Cockcroft Building, Lewes Road, Moulsecoomb, Brighton BN2 4GJ.
Site offices at Falmer, Eastbourne and Grand Parade provide local advice and support to prospective and current students.
