Teaching quality

The University of Brighton is committed to a teaching and learning environment that provides excellent opportunities for all of our students to successfully achieve in their chosen area of study.

The quality of the university's teaching is demonstrated by our performance in a range of external assessments and by our selection as a Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

Quality Assurance Agency Institutional Audit

In May 2008 the Quality Assurance Agency carried out an Institutional Audit. The agency's report expressed "confidence in the university's ability to assure the standards of its awards". This represented the highest possible level achievable under the new audit method. A number of areas of good practice were identified.

Ofsted inspections of Initial Teacher Education

Ofsted inspections of Initial Teacher Education are undertaken on a regular basis, and the quality of teaching has been graded as 'good' or 'very good' across a wide range of primary and secondary education courses.

The University of Brighton has become the only university in the country to achieve an 'outstanding' rating from the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) for management and quality assurance across the full range of primary, secondary and post-compulsory (16+) teacher education courses.

Professional accreditation

The majority of our students are on courses accredited by professional and statutory bodies. Successful completion of a professionally accredited course indicates that the student has reached the occupational standard required to practice that profession. Professional bodies who accredit our courses include ACCA, the Health Professions Council, the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development, the British Computer Society, the Institutions of Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Structural Engineers, RIBA, the Chartered Institute of Marketing, the Chartered Management Institute and the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
