Continuing professional development
Updating your knowledge and skills is vital to success in an ever-changing employment marketplace.
For 2013 we are offering a range of continuing professional development courses. These short courses are run through the Training and Development Unit at the University of Brighton and are specifically designed to meet the needs of industry, to complement experience and fulfil the requirements of businesses.
Through attending our courses delegates will be able to learn new skills and acquire new knowledge, benefiting both the individual and their workplace. Courses are taught by experienced teams, drawing on experts from both within and outside the University of Brighton and are backed by the university's quality assurance processes.
AutoCAD training
16 January to 20 March 2013 (10 sessions Wednesdays 4.00-6.00pm)
AutoCAD is an industry standard package which is used widely throughout the country. Our AutoCAD course is intended for designers, draughtsmen, engineers (of all disciplines), architects and managers who wish to learn the skills of Computer-Aided Design. The course is suitable for anyone who requires an introduction to AutoCAD, and is familiar with the basic use of computers.

Do-it-yourself Public Relations: getting your name in the papers
Fridays 18 January (full day), 15 February and 15 March 2013 (half days)
A three-part course for any business wanting to raise their profile through the media but without blowing the budget on a PR agency. You will learn how to write a press release about your business,

Environmental Policy and Law
Wednesday afternoons, 4.00pm to 6.00pm, from 6 February to 22 May 2013 (with a break for Easter)
This course is a series of 12 two-hour lectures, and provides an overview of the legal provisions with respect to the environment and the legal controls and policy mechanisms available to the international community, the European Union and the UK government. You can choose to attend individual lectures or the complete course.
Standard fee £550 for the full module or £20 to attend each lecture (sorry, no discounts available)
Social media: getting started and using it effectively

The one-day course will give delegates the confidence to engage with the three major social media networks and the knowledge and skills to do so effectively. Delegates will also have an understanding of the role of social media in modern communications; its strengths and weaknesses and how to avoid common pitfalls.

Practical marketing and sales for business
27 February to 15 May 2013 (10 half-day sessions, with a two-week break for Easter)
This course will benefit anyone who wants to gain practical marketing knowledge. It is ideal for companies wishing to grow rapidly or change their businesses, and for those who need to become more customer, sales, and market focused. The course is oriented towards acquiring practical skills and contains realistic, useful advice from week one, enabling you to start using tools to improve your business immediately.

Plastic Product Design and Manufacture
4-6 March 2013
A three-day short course for those wishing to learn about plastic product design and manufacture which will give participants knowledge of the polymer factors which influence design, plastic shaping methods and polymer product design theory. The course will benefit both those new to the subject or those who wish to extend their existing knowledge of plastic product design, plastics materials, polymer processing or who are working in a polymer product design related area.
