Sporting facilities
The University of Brighton Alumni Association has negotiated, for its members, special discounts for use of the university's sporting facilities. Alumni are eligible to apply for membership to the university's gyms at a discounted rate of £155 per annum (£165 from 1 August) for an annual membership which is a saving of £60 from the community member rate or there is now a new four-month membership costing just £60 (£75 from 1 August).
This entitles graduates to visit the university's many sporting facilities with no further cost for gym, swim or climbing wall use and no monthly fees. The university has sports facilities on three sites, all with different facilities. Your sports membership card will entitle you to visit any of these sites. Recently £1m has been spent refurbishing the pool at Eastbourne and building a new Performance Fitness Hub. The £7m Falmer Sports Centre has a fantastic gym and the cardiovascular equipment at the Cockcroft sports centre has all recently been upgraded. All facilities benefit from state-of-the-art Life Fitness equipment with integrated TV screens, I-pod docking capability and virtual trainer modes.
Facilities include gymnasia, fitness suites with resistance and cardiovascular equipment, studios, sports halls including, badminton courts, volleyball courts, basketball courts and climbing walls. There are also outdoor tennis courts, netball courts, and an indoor swimming pool at Eastbourne. A comprehensive classes programme is also available.

Physiotherapy services
The University of Brighton’s School of Health Professions provides a physiotherapy service in Eastbourne at the Leaf Hospital which is accessible to alumni members for only £35 per appointment. Physiotherapy at the Leaf (www.leaftherapy.co.uk) is run by expert physiotherapists who can assess and treat your aches and pains with flexible appointments and no waiting times.
Besides individual appointments the clinic has developed a number of unique classes with small groups working on certain conditions such as back and shoulder pain. Everyone knows that sticking to the exercises they have been given to help their condition are difficult and the clinic has responded to this tricky problem. Individuals can work on their specific exercises under the guidance of an experienced physiotherapist to ensure that they have optimal technique and get the best out of their exercises, putting them in charge of their own recovery. The clinic also has excellent links with GPs and consultants so that problems can be managed seamlessly.
