Replacement certificates and transcripts
The Examinations, Ceremonies and Awards team in the Registry department look after all matters regarding replacement certificates, transcripts and other forms of verification. Find out more about requesting:

Certificates awarded after 1992
To apply for a replacement certificate, you will need to download and complete the application form (24k pdf) in full, ensuring it is signed by the relevant certifying authority, before returning it to the Registry department, having made a payment of £30, via the online shop, where it will be reviewed before proceeding. Once your application has been accepted, we will print a new certificate which will be sent to you by recorded delivery.
Please note that this process can take up to 28 days from receipt of your application and cleared payment.
Degree certificates awarded 1965 – 1992
If you studied a degree course before September 1992 and after 1965, your award was validated by the Council for National Academic Awards (CNAA) and not the University if Brighton. The CNAA is no longer in existence, but the Open University hold their records and offer a validation service. Please go to the Open University website for information on how to proceed.
The university can supply verification letters confirming your award.

Edexcel (BTEC HNC/D) certificates awarded 1994 and after
The university can only supply duplicate Edexcel or BTEC certificate from 1994 onwards. To apply for a replacement certificate, you will need to download and complete the application form (24k pdf) in full, ensuring it is signed by the relevant certifying authority, before returning it to the Registry department, having made the appropriate payment via the online shop, where it will be reviewed before proceeding. Once your application has been accepted, we will print a new certificate which will be sent to you by recorded delivery.
Edexcel (BTEC HNC/D) certificates awarded before 1994
To apply for a replacement Edexcel certificate prior to 1994, you will need to go to the Edexcel website and complete the application form. or call 0845 618 0440.
Certified copies of certificates
Unless you are still local to Brighton, it is probably easier to go to a solicitor and ask them to make copies of your certificate and certify that it is an accurate copy of the original. However, should you wish the university to certify your certificate; you must post it back to us by recorded delivery and pay £5 for five copies. Please send your certificate and make the appropriate payment via the online shop.
Other verification services
Verification letters
We can provide a letter of verification confirming your award and the dates you studied with us. This will be printed on headed paper and stamped for authenticity. Please download and complete this form (24k pdf) and return to Registry having made the payment of £15 via the online shop. We aim to send out letters within two weeks of receiving your form and payment.
Academic transcripts
If you graduated in 2001 or after, you can obtain a copy of your academic transcript which list the modules you took and the credits you achieved. Please download and complete this form (24k pdf) and return to us having made the payment of £20 via the online shop. We aim to send out letters within two weeks of receiving your form and payment.
If you graduated before 2001 we are unfortunately unable to supply transcripts. However if you download and complete this form (24k pdf) we will send you a letter with the dates you studied, confirmation of your award and a copy of the prospectus page which details the breakdown of your course.
Post-study Work Visa Letter
If you require a letter to support your application to the UKBA to obtain the post-study worker category (Tier 1 Post-study work) visa under the points-based system to work in the United Kingdom, the University can provide it.
The letter will be an original (not a copy), on official headed paper and will be signed and stamped by the Assistant Registrar for Academic Awards. The letter will confirm your name, the title of your qualification, the start and end dates of your period(s) of study and the date of award. Please download and complete this form (link) and return to Registry. We aim to send out letters within two weeks of receiving your form.
