Selection of most recent successful applications
In the autumn round we received almost 70 applications for support with student and staff projects. The panel chose 29 winning projects. A selection is presented below. The spring round for applications will take place in mid January 2013.
Mrs Gez Wilson (Gallery and Theatre Manager, Faculty of Arts)
Purpose of Grant: Enable the university to host an event for students, local artists and makers, providing an opportunity to showcase and sell their work whilst also promoting the University to the community.
Current students will be provided with an opportunity to sell their work, probably for the first time to the public and to fundraise for their graduate shows for which they need to raise several thousands of pounds. Students already have stalls in the foyer throughout the year where they sell their artwork to raise funds and our idea is to bring these together and promote it to the local community and visitors to Brighton during the festival. This will increase the student experience, will generate income and bring the community and visitors to Brighton into the University site.
Acknowledgement of Springboard Grants Programme: This event will be promoted and the Springboard Grants Programme would be credited in the event listing in the Brighton Fringe Brochure, flyers and posters produced, e-flyer, web site listings and social media and in the press release.

Professor Lou Taylor (School of Humanities)
Purpose of Grant: This grant will enable a joint University/Brighton city project in fashion history, building on the town's Regency heritage. Partners are Fashion and Design History staff/students in the School of Humanities and staff at the Regency Town House, Brighton.
This is a fundamentally a Regency dress and social history research investigation into the design, function and consumption of a collection of unresearched and largely unknown paper silhouettes stored in the Regency Town House. Most of these date from 1750-1830 though there are also some later examples up to 1960. This project is not part of any formal, assessed University of Brighton teaching programme but is a separate town/gown Regency period research project.

Pippa Totraku ( Senior Lecturer, School of Education)

Through the innovative use of android phones and open source App-Inventor software, the project aims to develop and share effective and engaging methods in the teaching of new technologies. It will target children in Year 5 and 6, as this is a critical age when, especially girls, make decisions about their aspirations to pursue computer science and ICT related careers.
