Leaving a bequest

In our modern society even people with charitable intent may find it difficult to make the gifts they want while they are committed to mortgages and families. Leaving a gift to the University of Brighton in your will, after provision has been made to care for your family, is an excellent way of supporting an institution you care strongly about. Please read Why we are leaving a legacy to gather an insight from some of our donors.

You will join a growing number of benefactors who have pledged to help the university through a gift in their will. Your support can be directed to a number of different projects such as:

  • endowing a scholarship to attract and support our most talented students
  • maintaining excellent academic standards by endowing teaching posts
  • providing the latest resources, equipment and library provision
  • promoting research in an area of particular interest to you and the university.

Leaving a bequest to the University of Brighton is the highest honour that this institution can receive and we look forward to getting to know all those who have very kindly, agreed to support the university through leaving a gift in this way (pdf)

We will make every effort to understand your wishes and ensure that your gift is used in the way that you would like, keeping your memory alive at the university.

If you would like some more information about leaving a gift in your will, or would like to discuss your intentions, please contact Andrew Scanlan, Development Manager, on 01273 643591 or email a.d.scanlan@brighton.ac.uk. All discussions will be treated in the utmost confidence and will not commit you in any way.

We also strongly urge you to discuss your wishes with your solicitor; they will be able to advise you on the best form of gift for both you and your family.
