Ways of giving

How you can make a donation

Thank you for your interest in supporting the University of Brighton. There are many ways you can make a donation. Every gift you make, however big or small, will make a difference. Every pound of your donation goes directly to support the university, any administration costs are borne centrally and do not come out of the donations we receive.

The University of Brighton is an exempt charity (Inland Revenue number XR7098). Donations we receive qualify for Gift Aid, meaning your donation is worth 25 per cent more to the university.

New guidelines on giving by gift aid
The HMRC has issued new guidelines on the wording for written and verbal gift aid declarations to be used by charities. The actual rules have not changed but the new wording makes it much clearer as to who is eligible to include gift aid with their donations.

Under the new guidelines you must pay at least as much UK income tax and/or capital gains tax (for the year of the donation) as the amount that will be claimed by the charity you are donating to AND any other charities you donate to in the UK during the tax year. So, you must pay enough tax to cover the total amount of gift aid on all the charitable donations you make during the tax year. Other taxes such as VAT or council tax cannot be included in this figure. Our donation form has been updated to reflect these new guidelines. Please contact us if you have any questions or would like to discuss your own individual giving circumstances.
