Telephone campaigns
Each year we run telephone campaigns to build stronger relationships with our alumni and to raise money for projects that will help our students get as much as possible out of their time at the University of Brighton. Current telephone campaign.
We are proud of our reputation as an inspiring place to work and study, our strong industry links and the difference we are making in our local community and beyond. We want to continue to be a positive force for change in society and we really believe we can achieve more, the larger and stronger our university community.
During our telephone campaigns a team of students call alumni from their area of study to chat to them about what they are up to now; to pass on news about their school or faculty or the Students’ Union; to answer any questions they have; and to raise money for projects that add-value to our students’ experience and support them through their time here. The campaign also provides us with a good opportunity to ensure we have up-to-date details for as many alumni as possible.
Students really enjoy speaking to people who have been in their shoes and learn a lot from the wisdom of many of our alumni. Some have also arranged work placements as a result of calling them during the campaign.
What our student callers say
Hitesh Lad, Third year Mpharm student, who calls graduates as a member of our campaign team, said, 'In the beginning when I started the campaign, it was a little challenging as I wasn't getting many people answering their calls. But as the campaign went on, it was really satisfying to hear some of the interest alumni have in talking to us. I also started to really believe in the cause we are working for, because this job really does have a great impact in terms of the additional funding and projects it provides across the university. I really feel that I have learned a lot about the university through this campaign. So far, I've loved working as a student telephone fundraiser and I’ve enjoyed working with the rest of the team. I think a lot of the games we play and exercises we do really help in raising our spirits and getting us ready to make our calls. In the future, I definitely intend on applying again and I would love to be a group mentor.’
What our graduates say
Graduate of the Chelsea School Sarah Rowell donated as a result of receiving a call from one of our students during last year’s campaign. She said, ‘For me, this is about supporting others in a manner which I know would have helped me when I was a student. On a wider note, my whole career has been built on the degree that I did and if in a small way I can help others at a time when the financial situation is not so supportive I will.’
Every pound that is donated, including the Gift Aid, goes directly to our schools, faculties or the Students’ Union for them to disburse to their priority areas.
