Deyan Sudjic OBE

Deyan Sudjic is director of the Design Museum in London. He was awarded an honorary doctorate in recognition of his work in promoting British architecture and design.
Deyan trained as an architect and has worked as a critic, a curator and an editor. He was the founding editor of Blueprint magazine (1983–1996). Later he combined the role of the magazine’s editor with a teaching post as visiting professor at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and was editor of Domus (2000–04) and Architecture Critic of The Observer (1998–2006). Before joining the Design Museum in 2006, Deyan was dean of the Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design at Kingston University, and visiting professor at the Royal College of Art. He was director of Glasgow 1999, UK City of Architecture, and director of the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2002. Deyan has published widely around the world, his work ranging from scholarly articles to authoritative monographs.
In 2004 he was awarded the Bicentenary Medal of the Royal Society of Arts for the promotion of design and was made an honorary fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He was made an OBE in 2000. He was also made a commissioner of CABE (Commission for Architecture of the Built Environment), the governmental advisory body on architecture, urban design and public space.
