Ed Sweeney

Ed has a long and distinguished history of public service and is the current chair of ACAS. He is currently on the Governing Committees of Ruskin College, Oxford, and he has recently joined the Institute of Employment Studies governing council which aims to improve employment policy both in the UK and internationally. He is currently visiting Professor of Leeds University Business School.
Ed was appointed chair of ACAS Council in 2007. He graduated from Warwick University in 1976 with an honours degree in Politics and Law. He then completed an MSc (Econ) in Industrial Relations and Labour Law from the London School of Economics.
He was elected deputy general secretary of the Banking Insurance and Finance Union (BIFU) in 1991 and its general secretary in 1996. Following the formation of UNIFI in May, 1999, Ed was elected its general secretary in 2000.
After UNIFI was transferred into Amicus, he was appointed as deputy general secretary of Amicus. He was also previously a trade union general secretary and member of the TUC General Council.
Ed has contributed to the work of the Brighton Business School by lecturing students and contributing to the intellectual development of disciplines taught at the business school.
