Ghazi Nujeidat
Doctor of Arts

Ghazi Hussein Nujeidat is sports supervisor for the Galilee region in the Sport Authority for Israel, which is part of the Israeli Ministry of Culture and Sport. He was awarded an honorary doctorate in recognition of his work in promoting and using sport in the service of inter-community relations and peace building between Jewish and Arab people in Israel.

Ghazi lived in a traditional and nomadically transient Bedouin camp in the mountains until he was five years old. He then settled in the permanent village of Nujeidat, so named after the extended Bedouin tribe of which his family were members.

After a period of working on the land on the banks of the Sea of Galilee he enrolled in the regional Physical Education College, specialising in maritime studies and earning a teacher training qualification in Physical Education and, later, a bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Sociology.

His first job in education was in the local elementary and high schools before he was appointed as sports director for the Municipality of Buena Nujeidat, a position he held for 10 years. In addition to being a regional sport supervisor, Ghazi is the international relations facilitator for the Israeli Sports Authority. Ghazi has been a key figure in the development of the university’s Football for Peace programme.

With Ghazi’s help we have been able to build a strong working relationship with the Sports Authority for Israel.
