Janet was former course leader for Primary Education with QTS BA(Hons) at the University of Brighton. She taught a range of students on a number of courses in the School of Education including teaching assistants, practising teachers and student teachers. Dr Dennis P Hall
16 February 1928 to 1 July 2011

Dr Dennis Hall, a former student and member of the lecturing staff, died on 1 July 2011, aged 83. Dennis had taken the two-year mature students’ course of teacher training at Brighton College of Education (which later merged with Brighton Polytechnic). After teaching at Downs Junior, King’s Manor and Davison schools, he became a senior lecturer on BEd and BA courses in the English department at the Falmer site of Brighton Polytechnic / University of Brighton. Matthew Miller
3 February 1961 to 13 June 2011

Matthew Miller, who has died aged 50 of a heart attack, was a quiet visionary who pioneered a different way of making art, outside the hype and bombast of the contemporary British scene. With Liz Whitehead and fellow members of the Red Herring collective, in 1996 he created the Fabrica gallery in Brighton, a space unlike any other in Britain – not only in the open way it is run, but in how it has opened a door on art from Europe, and on important and often spectacular work happening below the radar.
