Welcome

The Aquatic Research Centre (ARC) is an innovative and interdisciplinary research centre hosted at the University of Brighton that comprises world-class academic researchers with expertise covering a range of disciplines relating to both freshwater and marine environments; including hydrology and hydrogeology, biology and ecology, water quality and pollution, recreation and society, technology and engineering, and civil engineering and the built environment.

The ARC has state-of-the-art research facilities, including multi-million pound laboratory amenities and analytical equipment, specialist microbial and water quality laboratories, an experimental river basin, as well as a large pool of related field equipment. All of these facilities are supported by a team of full-time laboratory and workshop technicians.

Our current research projects have attracted funding from a range of funding bodies including industry, government organisations, non-government organisations and Research Councils. The ARC specialises in applied research and we have a high output of publications in international academic journals.

The storm churned the ocean waters, bringing white carbonate sediment (chalk) to the surface.
