PASS schemes at Brighton

In the academic year 2011/12, PASS ran in six departments at the University of Brighton: the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences, the School of Applied Social Sciences, Chelsea School of Sport, Brighton Business School, School of Humanities, and at Sussex Downs College

Here are the details of the PASS schemes running in academic year 2012/13:

Applied Social Sciences 

  • 2010/11 was the first year of PASS in SASS
  • Running on Criminology and Social Policy, and Criminology and Sociology
  • 10 - 12 PASS leaders from 2nd and 3rd year
  • Approximately 70 1st year students will be in one of the PASS groups

Business School

  • First scheme started in 2011/12
  • 8 leaders from 2nd year Accounancy and Finance
  • PASS available to approximately 85 1st year Accountancy and Finance students

Chelsea School

  • First introduced in 2009/10, now in its third year
  • 2 PASS leaders who are postgraduate students
  • Approximately 25 Sport Coaching and Development, and Sport and Fitness (3rd yr) top-up students

Computing Engineering and Mathematics

  • Plans to include PASS for 75 first year mathematics students
  • Will recruit approximately 8 leaders

  • PASS is planned to run on BA(Hons) Education Studies, Key Stage 2/Key Stage 3 Mathematics Education BA(Hons) with QTS

  • 2012/13 will see the first PASS schemes in the School of Health Professions
  • PASS is planned to run on Podiatry BSc(Hons), and be available to first years

  • Approximately 2 leaders from 2nd year, who have completed Creative Writing module
  • Available to 1st year Powerful Texts module students

Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences

  • Started as a small PASS programme in 2009/10, now in it's third year of the scheme

  • Approximately 350 first year students all allocated a PASS group - covering 7 courses
