Study skills

A series of study skills workshops are running in semester 2 of this academic year. These workshops cover a variety of topics all designed to equip you with the study skills needed for academic success and getting the most out of your time at university. You are welcome to attend any session without booking, and at any site that is convenient. 

If you would like some advice on how to sharpen up your writing, planning, reading and research skills, how to give effective presentations or how to use tutor feedback in your future assignments then these sessions are designed for you.

Sessions take place in term two for 90 minute sessions each week and cover a range of topics such as essay planning, taking notes, how to remember what you read, organising your writing, meeting deadlines, revising for exams and how to work in groups.

You do not need to book, however spaces are limited so make sure you are on time to avoid disappointment. You can also bring your lunch!

How to make your presentations more interesting and do justice to your ideas. How to overcome nerves and appear more confident. How to recognise challenges that arise in group work.

Crits and Peer Feedback (Grand Parade only)

How to make your presentations more interesting and do justice to your ideas. How to overcome nerves and appear more confident. How to recognise challenges that arise from peer feedback. Learn from feedback and use it to improve your work.

Using Tutor Feedback

What is the purpose of feedback and how can you use it to imrpove your learning? How to understand the feedback you receive from tutors, and apply this to your future work. Please bring along a piece of assessed work and/ or tutor feedback to get the most out of this session.

Essays / Assignments Planning and Structuring

 

What are the stages involved in producing an essay? How to break the question down. How to stick to a timetable and tips for getting started.  How to develop an argument using a logical structure. The importance of an introduction and conclusion; editing and proof reading.

Essays/ Assignments reading, research and critical analysis

Discover new reading strategies. Learn effective note taking and referencing whilst avoiding plagarism. How to adopt a critical approach and identify different arguments.

Exams, Stress and Revision
