The AVASH assessment report can now be downloaded from the Info - Results section of the website..
Welcome to the AVASH project page.
The AVASH (Advanced Ventilation Approaches for Social Housing) project was funded by the EU IEE programme to investigate the most appropriate ventilation and insulation upgrade strategy, from the point of view of energy efficiency and health, for existing social housing in Denmark, Ireland and the UK.
To achieve these goals detailed insulation and air-tightness surveys of properties in each of the three countries were carried out, and the details of these surveys can be found by following the image links below.
After a representative sample of each country's social housing stock had been characterised the project moved on to investigate the available technologies for the upgrade of the properties, which were compiled into checklists to provide housing providers with an invaluable easy reference resource to initially assess the best upgrade strategies for their housing stock. These checklists can be viewed individually below, and a one page instruction sheet for their use can be found here.
With these checklists the project went on to model these different scenarios with an advanced computational tool called ESP-r. The diffferent ventilation upgrade scenarios were assessed and quantified in terms of energy savings, CO2 emissions, cost and simple payback periods and the results presented in a final assessment report.
This report, which summarises all the phases of the project, provides instructions on the use of the checklists and a breakdown of the energy and cost implications of various upgrades is available below in both English (covering the results of all three countries) and Danish (covering the Danish results).
In addition, the summary conclusions from the project can be found here.
The project has produced numerous reports, newsletters, flyers, posters, and information packs, all of which can be found on the Info/Dissemination part of the site. Direct links to the media and education packs can be found here and here respectively.
The lead organisation is the University of Brighton. If you would like more information on this project please see the 'Info' page, or contact us via the details on the 'Contact' page.
