The training programmes we can provide are normally tailored to the client and usually run over a period of one to five days - though other time periods can be catered for. Consultancy is also bespoke and the length of work will again depend on the nature of the consultancy work.

Benefits

Short course training has the major benefit of providing essential skills and knowledge within a short period - reducing the need for disengaging key staff for critical time periods.

Short courses and new learning are often cited by delegates as an essential aspect of staff development and can form an important part of a company's retention strategy.

Flexibility

The syllabi for short courses can be varied to suit the needs of different organisations. Following the completion of a short course, more advanced modules could be offered to meet bespoke company needs.

Attendance and teaching

For a short course to be viable a minimum of five students will need to attend. The courses themselves can be run in the evening, during the day, or at weekends, with intranet support if required.

The teaching method is delegate-focussed with some formal elements, case studies, self reporting audits, discussion and presentations. The modules may qualify for CPD, and the university will consider crediting them towards an award if the module has an additional assessment element, (e.g. 'Practical Marketing for Business' has 10 credit points at Masters level).

Consultancy

Staff members in the Business School have considerable experience in offering consulting services in the areas of:

  • Marketing and strategy (e.g. focus groups for new product development)
  • Human resource management (e.g. staff satisfaction surveys)
  • Management mentoring (e.g. CEO mentoring)
  • Financial management (e.g. reviews of financial systems)
  • Managerial economics (e.g. measuring the economic impact of company location)
  • Public sector issues (e.g. audit of training needs)

The consultant will bring specific skills of questionnaire design, focus group research and face-to-face interviewing. Data analysis can then be devlivered through sophisticated software packages like ACCESS and SPSS etc.

Price

Pricing for our short courses is based on the number of participants, the degree of specialism required and the time period involved. Courses can be selected on a 'mix and match' basis and quotations are available from Dr Clifford Conway (details below)
