Our short courses and workshops can be tailored to meet the specific needs of your organisation.

Flexible course delivery

These courses are delivered in-house. The courses themselves can be run in the evening, during the day, or at weekends, with intranet support if required.

The modules may qualify for CPD, and the university will consider crediting them towards an award if the module has an additional assessment element (e.g. Practical Marketing for Business has 10 credit points at masters level).

Business and management

Introduction to Management

This course is an Introduction to the key functional areas within a company. Aimed at middle managers who may not have a full management training background (engineering etc).

1-4 days
Innovation Management

Innovation is the practice of profiting from an idea which is new to your company. This course gets to the bottom of what skills are needed to innovate and explores the practical process for deciding which ideas to develop and exploit.

Strategic management: managing success

An overview of key management and business issues. It is for people who are new to management positions or who wish to enhance existing skills. It covers marketing strategy, talent management, financial management and business planning and implementation (each day may be taken as a stand-alone course).

Introduction to Business Strategy

Understanding, analysing and planning for the future is an increasing requirement in this global age. This programme will provide the key tools to start this process.

Occupational Safety and Health Management

Designed for managers who have a statutory duty for the efficient and effective safety and welfare of their employees.

Crisis Management

The very nature of a crisis is its unpredictable nature. Crisis management is concerned with minimising the effects and developing a preparedness that can allow a company to be proactive, rather than just reactive.

Project Management

Covers all aspects of project management, from project structure and life-cycle, to feasibility risk assessment and management pitfalls, through to communication, managing conflict, evaluation and review.

Public Sector Training and Consultancy

The course can incorporate a range of topics, including: people management, service planning and development, leadership, managing partnerships, quality management, clinical governance, mentoring and management support, resource-based strategy assessment.

Finance and economics

Managerial Economics

This course attempts to demystify the economic environment and thereby provide managers with the confidence to use economic sources creatively.

Financial & Management Accounting

Aimed at non-accounting managers who wish to understand the bases of financial and management accounting. To enable financial reporting back to stakeholders, manage and control budgets and appreciate the importance of cost and cash controls forecasting.

Human resource management

Human Resource Management

This is a programme for either HR or non-HR managers who wish to renew and or enhance their people management skills.

Marketing and sales

Introduction to Marketing and Sales

This will be of particular value to any organisation where the marketing function is relatively new or yet to be developed.

Public Sector Marketing

A course specific to the needs of public sector organisations, with low budgets but high customer/client service level needs.

Social Enterprise Marketing

Increasingly the community and voluntary sectors, need to complement grant income with commercial income generated from current or new services. Marketing will play a key role in achieving this goal:

Practical Marketing for Business

This course is ideal for businesses and departments who need to become more customer and market focused, or for people moving from a technical role to a more business focused role. By successfully completing a piece of assessed work, 10 credit points at masters level are awarded.
