In spite of the current recession the number of students from the Brighton Business School going into graduate employment and postgraduate study remains strong.
Good graduate employment rates
According to the university's Destination of Leavers in Higher Education survey 2009/10 almost 90% of our graduates start a job or go into further study or training within six months of finishing their course.
Experience through undergraduate work placements
All business and management undergraduates are encouraged to apply for a paid work placement year. Work placements significantly add to your CV and provide networking opportunities, and many students return for their final year with firm job offers.
For a £750 fee you have the opportunity to gain work experience at firms such as American Express, BMW, Bosch, Channel 4, Disney, Electronic Arts, Hewlett Packard, Home Office, IBM, Ipsos Mori, ITV, lastminute.com, Microsoft and Rolls Royce. More about work placements
Students have plenty of flexibility within their degree. There are dozens of electives enabling you to tailor your studies to your chosen career path.
Careers support
The university's Careers Service offers information and guidance relating to any aspect of your career planning and development. The service is in regular contact with over 1,800 employers who post vacancies and attend our careers fairs. The Careers Service remains free for all former students to use after graduation. Careers counsellor
Christina Keiller is the Business School's Careers Counsellor. You can speak confidentially with Christina to discuss your plans, come up with ideas, have your CV checked or prepare for interviews. Christina works closely with course tutors and together they ensure that employability is included within your academic study.
Career Planning Agreement
We are one of only a few universities to ensure that students have a career planning agreement (CPA) in place from the beginning of their course. As part of the CPA course leaders and careers counsellors plan and provide activities to support your career and personal development.

Applying theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios
Our teaching approach is vocationally orientated: we cover the theory in depth and then apply it to real world issues by case studies and through employer-based projects.
Experienced lecturers
The majority of our lecturers have worked in industry and continue to consult for corporate organisations, enabling them to provide business insights based on real-world experience.
Many courses feature guest speakers. For example, our MBA course features a Global Management Forum, the Diploma in Law has guest lectures by local practitioners and judges, and the Social Marketing PGCert has visiting speakers from The Campaign Company.
Applying relevant research
Our specialised research centres and collaboration with our business partners enables us to translate our research into commercial success through real-world application. This is vital for our teaching, ensuring our courses are up-to-date, interesting and relevant.
