The Brighton Business School Mooting Society is a newly ratified society with a fast growing membership of already over 120 students. The Society provides workshops, guest speakers, socials, trips and competitions to help build members' confidence and adversarial skills that are increasingly essential in any career path in the legal sector.

The objective of the mooting competitions is to develop the research and advocacy skills of future practitioners. Students argue both sides of a fictitious legal case in a courtroom setting before a panel of judges.

The Brighton Business School Mooting Society is run by Daniel Lamba who says, "We have already ran several workshops, for which we have had great turnouts, and the variety of attendees was amazing; we had students not only from the Law with Business LLB and Postgraduate Diploma in Law, but also students from a variety of other study areas, University staff and a representative from a charity.

"The workshops are an informal opportunity for members to meet and join in exercises designed to strengthen all aspects of being an effective advocate. Despite having groups of varying ability they all, in their feedback and performance by the end of the sessions, showed signs of great improvement and enjoyment."

The Society intends to hold regular events, including a Spring Social at which students will have the opportunity to dine and meet former Brighton law graduates, ILEX professionals, lecturers, solicitors, barristers and judges.
