Over 100 Business School students have found work placements in local businesses for the 2012/13 academic year.

Virginia Goodwill, Industrial Placements Officer, said: "We're proud to have found work placements for a record number of students. Helping students gain work experience is a vital part of our drive to increase student employability. Students who take a placement in industry are a step ahead when it comes to securing the right job after graduation."

"We aim to ensure that every student joining us in 2012 has the opportunity to gain work experience alongside the excellent academic experience we offer at Brighton."

This year, organisations participating in the work placement scheme included American Express, BMW, Bosch, Disney, Hewlett Packard, Home Office, IBM, ITV, lastminute.com, Microsoft, Rolls Royce Motor Cars, Ernst & Young, Coty, Nike, Porsche and Hitachi.

Work placements significantly add to students' CVs and many return for their final year with firm job offers.

Mir Baloch who studied Business Management with Marketing BSc(Hons) found a work experience at Microsoft. He said: "My work placement at Microsoft UK really boosted my confidence. I can use examples that I've done in my job to demonstrate my abilities and skills, and I think that just gives you an inherent confidence and you are much more relaxed compared to other students who don't have the experience."

"I think having a company like Microsoft on your CV is great, but just having a placement year is very important. Employers are obviously going to be drawn to the applicants who have work placements because they've got experience."
