Students from Brighton Business School have successfully competed against 170 teams to reach the semi-final of the Universities Business Challenge competition.

The Universities Business Challenge is a business simulation in which students act as a team of management consultants who have responsibility for improving the performance of a business. Undergraduate teams from universities and colleges across the UK compete to achieve maximum profit, acquire new business and enhance customer satisfaction.

Vincent Kane, Senior Lecturer, said "This was a good opportunity for our students to improve their knowledge of the business world, put theory into practice and develop their team-working, leadership and employability skills."

Mainza Sikabanga, Business Management with Finance (BA)Hons student, said: "The University Business Challenge has been an incredible opportunity to develop our skills and add to our CVs."

"During the first round we ran a virtual manufacturing business over a 5 week period. No trading week was the same and there is always something unexpected happening. You have to work hard to react to market changes and competitor's decisions. We are learning about team work, entrepreneurial skills and business decision making, and that's something employers will want to see."

The semi-finals will take place in RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce) in London on March 8th. It will give the Brighton team the opportunity to meet fellow competitors and graduate employers offering on internships, placements and graduate schemes. We wish them the best of luck.
