Work placements

One of the beneits of studying at the University of Brighton is the structure of our undergraduate courses to include an optional year-long work placement in the third year. It is paid and includes taking on a work-based project that replaces your final year dissertation and contributes directly to your final degree mark.

Graduate with experience

Students who take a placement in industry are a step ahead when it comes to securing the right job after graduation. You graduate with a year’s relevant work experience, which gives you a distinctive advantage over other graduates.

Build your CV

Work experience can be a significant part of your education and career development, alongside the more formal study of the degree course. A work placement also significantly adds to your CV and many students return to university for their final year with firm job offers.

Get a head start on building your career network

Doing a work placement also helps you to build industry contacts that will be invaluable when you graduate.

Support from a dedicated work placement team

Our dedicated work placement team in the business school has links with employers throughout the UK. We offer assistance at every stage, from CV writing tuition to interview technique and mock interviews. During your placement year we will also provide support and guidance, and visit you at your workplace.

More about how it works

My placement year will put me at an advantage when I get my first graduate job. I will know what to expect when joining a company. I have already improved how I work with people and a number of personal skills, such as time management, running projects simultaneously, training people, presenting to an audience etc."
