We support you throughout the process of finding, applying for and completing your work placement. Working with the school's work placement team you will get:
- assistance in obtaining a placement
- two visits from a placement supervisor
- on-line support to deal with any problems that may arise during the placement.
Finding a suitable placement
At the beginning of your second year you will be invited to an induction talk where everything about the work placement year will be clearly explained.
We recommend that you book a 15-minute discussion with a member of the placements team at the talk. Alternatively, during October there will be appointment lists displayed on the work placements board and you can add your name to these lists.
This is to enable us to get to know you and vice versa, to find out your preferred career aims and your strengths and weaknesses. This is also an opportunity for you to discuss any problems you may have that could affect your performance or attendance at interviews.
During the course of the year in excess of 1,000 jobs will be advertised on the board. We have contacts with local employers and information on all previous employment opportunities
Make use of our skills and knowledge. The team is here to help you and show you how to apply for jobs, but it is your responsibility to apply for as many positions as possible to ensure you secure a placement.
If, at any time, you feel you need help with your CV, interview coaching or a mock interview, then please ask, as this is a major part of the placement office role.
