Brighton Business School is committed to intellectual excellence through research, and our research activity is at the centre of all that we do. As one of our students, you will benefit from our cutting edge research that forms the basis of all of our teaching.
We have developed excellent working relationships with the wider research community and we work closely with external institutions and commercial businesses. Collaboration with our business partners enables us to translate our research into commercial success through real-world application.
The school has over 70 research-active staff and has an established development programme to support both active and new researchers. Knowledge generation is vital for our teaching and the school's research activity keeps our courses up to date, interesting and relevant.
Research of international standing
The latest Research Assessment Exercise (2008) shows that 70 per cent of our business and management research is of international standing or higher. Twenty per cent of our research in business and management studies received the top 4-star rating, which ranks us as one of the top 15 UK business schools in terms of world-leading research outputs.
Major research conferences
The research capability of the Business School is also reflected in the major conferences it has hosted, such as the Annual Conference of the European Marketing Academy (EMAC) 2008; British Academy of Management (BAM) Conference 2009; Work, Employment and Society Conference 2010; and the Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges Conference 2010.
A world leading innovation management centre
The Centre for Research in Innovation Management (CENTRIM) is one of the world's ten leading innovation research groups (IJP 2006), and one of the four leading UK university centres in innovation management (NESTA 2007).
The Research Assessment Exercise (2008) noted that the Business School and CENTRIM have 'a substantial amount of research of at least international standard' and that 'world leading outputs are also present'. It also noted that CENTRIM has a focus on applied research and that it has a world leading record of engagement and impact on business and government.
Centre for Research on Management and Employment
The Centre for Research on Management and Employment (CROME) bridges professional and academic knowledge on managing change at work and in employment. The centre's research activity focuses on businesses, not for profit organisations, unions and government at a local and international level.
