This group adopts a multidisciplinary approach to its exploration of management practices in small businesses.
Areas of interest include entrepreneurial language, management information and decision-making, accounting, the role of non-executive directors, governance in SMEs and networks.
The unit has undertaken research for the government's Council for Excellence in Management and Leadership, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Sussex Enterprise, and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
Members of the unit are represented on the Board of the Institute for Small Business Affairs, the Research Advisory Group of the Small Firms and Enterprise Development Initiative, the Sussex Panel of The Prince's Trust Business Division, and the Research Advisory Group of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
Future research will continue to utilise the creativity of a multidisciplinary team with notions of social construction as an organising paradigm.
