The Economic and Social Transition research group aims to provide a vibrant infrastructure for research in the area of social and economic transition. This includes economic development in transition economies and European integration with particular interest in the process of EU enlargement as well as transformation processes in society and emerging markets.
The research team is embedded in Brighton Business School and contributes to teaching on all levels of the school. Particular emphasis is given to the degrees in Finance, Economics and Investment (BA and MSc). The group is also providing effective PhD supervision in its area of interest. In addition to current third party funded projects it is intended to raise further resources to extend the research programme.
Members of the group offer consulting to firms and institutions (in particular universities) concerned with the transition from planned to market economies in particular and in the field of general economic and social transition.
