Legal skills development

The development of effective personal, academic and legal skills is one of the most important features of the law courses at Brighton. All first year LLB students are required to complete an academic skills module which is tailored to meet the needs of law students, which is then consolidated in all other modules, but especially the second and third year Legal Case Study modules, which focus on the development of effective oral presentation, advocacy and team work skills. For example, as part of the second year Legal Case Study module, students are required to participate in a moot i.e. a simulated court where complex points of law are argued.

Also, all Brighton law students currently have the opportunity to take part in the School's "Simulated Magistrates Court" initiative which gives law students a unique opportunity to examine and cross-examine our student police officers about real cases before local magistrates in an authentic court room environment.
