The university this month successfully bid for two grants totalling almost a quarter of a million pounds from the government's Knowledge Transfer Partnership scheme.
The first, worth £112,400, will see university computer experts working with Posturite Ltd in Berwick near Polegate, East Sussex, market leaders in the supply of curative ergonomic office furniture and accessories.
Gulden Uchyigit, from the School of Computing Mathematical and Information Sciences, supported by Gerard Allsop from the same school, will spend two years developing sector-relevant advanced web-based customer interfaces and associated business processes to increase sales.
The second grant, also worth £112,400, involves the East Grinstead-based Blond McIndoe Research Foundation which has a worldwide reputation for medical research with expertise in cell biology applied to wound healing.
The foundation is based at the Queen Victoria Hospital and conducts clinically-relevant translational research to support plastic and reconstructive surgery.
The foundation is reliant on charitable donations and the two-year project, led by Lyvia Royd-Taylor and supported by Asher Rospigliosi, from the university's Brighton Business School, will involve developing business plans and marketing strategies focused on attracting long-term funding to support research.
