More than just a lending hand

Published 21 May 2010

A dual celebration took place recently at the Cockcroft Building in Moulsecoomb: the official opening of the new Santander branch and an opportunity to recognise the achievements of the staff, students and community partners who received funding during the first year of the Santander-University of Brighton relationship.

A total of 27 grants and awards were made ranging from £500 to £10,000 and a number of the recipients attended the event to collect certificates and to express their thanks to Santander.

John Hedges of Santander remarked upon the impressive array of activities rewarded through the funding opportunities and the Vice-Chancellor Professor Julian Crampton acknowledged Santander's genuine commitment to supporting the university sector.

Blanca Balaguer, one of the masters scholarship recipients, highlighted how her award had enabled her to benefit from an educational and cultural experience which would otherwise have been out of her reach.

The branch provides a range of preferential rate services and products for staff and students and details of these can be obtained by contacting the branch santandercockcroft@brighton.ac.uk.
