Overview

Businesses are the biggest victims of cybercrime. Every day the UK suffers 120,000 cyber attacks and the cost of this is estimated at £27bn per year. Internet hacking is nothing new, yet it seems that even big corporations with sophisticated security such as Yahoo and the BBC are open to attack. Small businesses are no exception and a recent report commissioned by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills highlighted the fact that they are generally less well-prepared when it comes to IT security.

This fascinating half-day course will provide a great introduction to the topic of keeping your information safe in the digital age, guiding you through the process of identifying possible risks and finding the right solutions for your company.

Course tutor

In 1985 Robert Schifreen became the first person in the world to face a trial by jury in connection with computer hacking. He was ultimately acquitted of all charges. Currently working in the University of Brighton’s Information Services department, he has spent the last 20 years as a writer, broadcaster and commentator on all aspects of information security. As well as delivering courses on safe computing to the university’s 4,000 staff, Robert is a regular conference speaker in the UK and has had more than 200 radio and television appearances. He balances his work at the university with running a UK based consultancy specialising in information security.
