Brighton is the heart of one of the UK's leading creative, digital and information technology clusters, and the University of Brighton is involved in a number of collaborations in these fast-developing industries.

AGOGO - Authoring Outdoor Games on the Go

This18-month collaborative project with local companies Locomatrix and Future Platforms is funded by the Technology Strategy Board. The project is to develop an authoring system for locative outdoor games.

Locomatrix develops smartphone games that are based upon your GPS position - games that are played outside, in the open air, and can be standalone or multiplayer. As well as producing their own unique games, they also work with clients to conceptualise and develop geo-location games for specific requirements. 

Future Platforms designs, develops and launches software products for mobile phones, with an emphasis on collaboration, participation and playfulness.

The Brighton Fuse project for digital expansion


The Brighton Fuse project began on 1 June 2011 with the aim of expanding the creative, digital and IT sectors in Brighton and Hove.

The project has brought to together a consortium of experts to investigate ways of supporting innovation, creativity and economic growth to generate new business and employment opportunities in the area.

The project was initiated and developed by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the Council for Industry and Higher Education (CIHE) with a £1m grant awarded. It involves collaboration between the city's two universities and Wired Sussex, a membership organisation which works with over 2,000 digital, media and technology companies in the region.

Cosmic drums


Charlie Hooker, Professor of sculpture in the Faculty of Arts, has worked with physicists to create a sculpture which makes the invisible radioactive particles from the sun and stars not only visible but audible too. More about Professor Charlie Hooker
