Santander Universities - supporting local companies to take on graduate interns

The University of Brighton is delighted to announce that Santander Universities will be part-funding graduate internship opportunities locally. The national scheme, which is a partnership with 58 universities including the University of Brighton, will create a fantastic opportunity for nine local businesses to take on a skilled graduate for three months.

The programme is open to small-to-medium-enterprises with less than 250 employees and with a turnover of less than £50m. Santander UK is keen that the companies should be local to the participating university. Those offering the best experience for the student and the capacity to recruit full time will get first refusal.

The placements are three months in duration, they can begin from September 2012 and should be completed by June 2013. Santander provide £1500 and the company would be expected to fund at least the other half with the intern receiving a minimum of £3000 in total for three months (above National Minimum Wage requirements).

If the role is approved in discussion between the University of Brighton and the company, the company would use Santander’s online portal to upload job details and monitor applications.

The University of Brighton can assist the company in creating the advert  promoting the role, and advising with the shortlisting process, but the final decision on appointment is made by the company.

As a condition of granting the funding, a representative from Santander will be in contact to discuss the company’s business needs and whether there is any possibility of working together.

The nine internships will include at least one graduate who has studied at  Eastbourne and one from Hastings, as well as Brighton. The roles are limited to new and recent graduates of the University of Brighton.
