Cameron and Wilding Ltd is a website design and development company that specialises in the Drupal content management system. Working from strategy through to design and development they create websites that are central to the running and marketing of organisations, including Mencap, The Greater London Authority and LexisNexis.

The company was setup three years ago by Ben and his business partner Neil Cameron and currently employs ten people. Both Ben and Neil have previous experience of running a language exchange social network over an 18 month period. Although that site has now shut down, they gained 3000 members and learned a huge amount during the process. It was this project that awakened a passion for business and led Ben to study Management at The University of Brighton and Finance with the ACCA.

Ben says that the Management course at Brighton enabled him to learn the fundamentals of management from a number of very experienced professionals and equipped him with skills that he now employs on a daily basis. The Beepurple workshops complimented his studies brilliantly and focussed on the realities of running your own business, which is very different from pure management. Beepurple exposed Ben to the essentials of a number of subjects, like marketing and finance, which he feels everyone needs to know when running their own venture. Also, some of the best support received by Ben from Beepurple was from the staff, who he often bounced ideas off and signposted him to a variety of resources for researching and developing his ideas.

“I would recommend beginning your own business as soon as possible. Start in a low-cost and non-time-consuming fashion and just start learning the lessons as you go as early as possible with minimal risk. It will mean you can grow and develop more quickly later on when you are ready to commit fully to the right idea.”
