Laura Crow
BA (Hons) Information and Media Studies
Brighton graduate Laura Crow became self employed in 2005 when she started working freelance on her own business after graduation called Laura Crow Photography. Laura is based in Hove and works with a range of clients on a variety of work from events and portraiture to corporate artwork.
Laura says she discovered her passion for photography during her course at The University of Brighton, and since graduation has become lucky enough to do something she loves as a job, with the added benefit of being her own boss, choosing her hours and not having to report to anybody!
Although being a freelancer has it’s challenges, for Laura the hardest thing is being a ‘Jack of all Trades’ – having to deal with the practical sides of business like marketing and accounting whilst getting customers and being able to actually do the work!

Laura said “beepurple has helped me learn about the areas of business that I didn’t learn from my degree and has therefore enabled me to be confident and sell my creative skill in the business world. Beepurple’s intensive summer course, ‘Ultra Violet’ was key to helping me perceive myself as a business person and gave me the chance to develop entrepreneurial skills and gave me the confidence to develop my business further.
“Also, being able to access the ongoing support of the team, one to one mentoring sessions and evening workshops, continually helps me to develop vital business skills including networking and marketing and learn new information on topics like intellectual Property, which covers copyright laws – essential for every photographer!”
In the future Laura hopes to make her business run more effectively through the use of her new website and by taking advantage of the huge variety of free social media networks and tools that are available online. Laura also hopes to grow into an area of work that really inspires her, by exploring possible collaborations on charitable projects.
