The awards

The Santander University of Brighton Enterprise Awards aim to discover the best new business ideas with potential.

Entry to the competition is open between February until mid-April and the top ten ideas will win £250 and the chance to develop their skills and ideas through a specialist training course that takes place during April.

These finalists will then have the chance to win a further £2500 and expert business advice and support to help their business grow.

Competition Categories

The most innovative product award is for the most innovative idea for a product with commercial potential.

The most entrepreneurial service award is for the most entrepreneurial idea for a service with commercial potential.

The most enterprising community project award is for the best idea with social and/or environmental benefit.

Initial prizes

Three £250 awards will be made for the best applications in each of the three categories, with an additional prize of £250 also awarded to the best overall runner-up from all categories. All cash prizes are sponsored by Santander Universities.

The ten winners as identified above will then be invited to undertake a day’s worth of enterprise training featuring a communication masterclass courtesy of Vada Media and past Enterprise Award entrant Ben Wilding from Cameron & Wilding talk about his journey since winning and help candidates prepare for the final stage of the competition.

Secondary prizes

From here, there will be one overall winner in each category, each of whom will win a further £2500 cash prize, a business planning guide provided by My StartUp Plan, a one to one Social Media masterclass with Julian Hall, bespoke PR advice from Vada Media, a two consultation on intellectual property and legal issues with the team at Mayo Wynne Baxter and a roller banner stand and £50.00 of poster printing from Exhibit Printing Ltd, a company founded by a Brighton graduate and past recipient of an Enterprise Award in 2009!

Winners from each specific category will also receive:

Most innovative product – Marketest will provide a market research consultation worth £500.

Most entrepreneurial service – MDHUB will reward the winner of this category with a year’s membership to MDHUB – the premier business club for leading managing directors in the South East. In addition, Create will supply a years subscription to their Pro Seller website package, to get the winners selling their wares online.

Most enterprising community project – PricePie  will provide a mentoring session to help move the winning project forward.

The winners will be announced at a special event on Thursday 20 June 2013 at The University of Brighton.
