Innovation Award

Student: Adam Heikal, PhD - 'High throughput drug screening'.
A specialist drug screening process that Adam has dubbed the 'just add water approach'.

Team of staff:  Professor Andy Cundy, School of the Environment and Technology, Dr Ray Whitby and Professor Sergey Mikhalovsky, both School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences – ‘Nanoclean'.
Nanoclean uses novel methods in nanotechnology and biomaterials to clean polluted water and was heralded as “a truly an inspired example of the practical application of science to solve real life problems” by the judges.

Entrepreneurship Award

Student: George Eady, BSc Illustration - 'Visual Chess'.
A new method for young people to learn and play chess.

Two entries shared the staff entrepreneurship award:
Ben Wilding, Brighton Business School - ‘Huitalk’.
A website to help language students learn from each other.

Jessica Moriarty, School of Language, Literature and Communication and Dr Maria Antoniou, CLT - 'Just Write'.
A programme of creative writing workshops.

Social Enterprise Award

Graduate: Adam Fairweather, BA Three Dimensional Design - 'Re-Worked'. 
Design of a new, recyclable, durable and biodegradable multi-purpose material.

Team of staff: Dr Elizabeth Manzanares and Dr Elena Sazhina, both School of Environment and Technology - 'Waste Glass Workshop Studio'.
An art studio, open to the public for making works from recycled glass.

Judges also highly commended Dr Hamid Isfahany's (School of Environment and Technology) entry: 'Learning Centre for Peoples Vulnerability and Hazard Mitigation'.
A learning centre to raise awareness about natural disasters.
