This fantastic company performance has been supported by a £15m investment programme in infrastructure but there is no doubt that its success is largely due to the passion, vision and dedication of the Hastings Insurance staff.
We believe it’s our passion for our customer and our staff, coupled with our entrepreneurial spirit, that sets us apart.

That IBM invented the barcode over 40 years ago? That we created the processors that power your Wii, Xbox 360 and Playstation? That we invented the first personal computer 30 years ago? And that we developed the NASA technology which enabled man to land on the moon?...If you didn’t, then imagine what else there is to find out about us!

UK Power Networks may not be a name you recognise. But let’s have a think for a minute…
This morning you may have boiled your kettle to make your tea, turned on the lights while brushing your teeth or, recently, you could have jumped on a train or jetted off from one of the major airports in the South East? All of these events could not have occurred without UK Power Networks. As one of the UK’s largest energy distribution companies, a quarter of the population rely on us to go about their daily lives. So we’re responsible for keeping the lights on for customers regardless of whom they pay their bill to.
Operating in the East of England, London and the South East, we own and operate three public electricity distribution networks, otherwise known as DNOs. We’re also regulated by Ofgem. As a company we provide service alterations, upgrades and connections, full-scale networks connections for infrastructure, large commercial industrial and housing developments.
Our remit also encompasses the design, operation and maintenance of privately-owned electricity networks for clients in the rail, airports, defence and commercial sectors. This has seen us get involved in projects such as Heathrow and Gatwick Airports, High Speed 1 (Channel Tunnel rail link), Thameslink, Ministry of Defence and Canary Wharf. We also operate, maintain and renew the London Underground power distribution system.
We employ about 5,500 people. We’re striving to become an employer of choice. And, as a responsible and respected corporate citizen, sustainability and cost efficiency are key. Achieving such objectives means we have embraced a culture based on values of integrity, continuous development, diversity and inclusivity, respect, unity and responsibility. If you share these values and want to play a role in influencing the energy industry’s future, then we’d like to hear from you.
We Connect Students is the new online social community which places students in the centre of a well-connected, professional environment of employers and industry mentors looking to identify and attract graduate talent. WCS brings together students, employers and mentors in a focused, professional way.
Students create just one CV / professional profile. Once complete it enables the student to be found by employers, who using our detailed search facility, can find undergraduates and graduates who match their key hiring requirements. No more fuss or searching through lists and lists of job pages.
Student profiles can be searched by academic achievements, extra-curricular activity, work experience, languages, skills, societies and even interested. A general or bespoke video is also available, together with a psychometric profile. Employers can assign their own mentors, and can target students to invite them to careers events and to organise internships.
Students can use WCS from day 1, year 1 of their university career to create a professional profile and expose themselves to employers. Students can choose to be mentored by industry experts offering advice pertaining to the real world and be invited to events by employers. WCS provides students with the ability to network their way to success.
It is the CV that grows with you.
