Other sources of careers support
After you graduate you can still get help and advice from the Careers Service. If you are no longer in Sussex and can't come in to one of centres you can still email or call us for advice or information. However, there are other places that you can go for careers advice.
Other universities and colleges
Some universities and colleges will allow you to use their careers services under informal mutual aid agreements. This means you may be able to make use of some services. Most universities and colleges give priority to their own student and preference to graduates of their institution. Always contact your chosen university or college to check if they can help you.
City Jobs
City Jobs is a free employment service offering assistance with recruitment in Sussex, Their aim is to help students and local residents find job vacancies in Brighton and Hove.
Community Service Volunteers
CSV places young people aged 16 to 35 in full-time voluntary work and can help you find a volunteering position. You could be placed wherever your help is needed.
The Disabled Graduates Careers Information Service
Operated by SKILL (The National Bureau for Students with Disabilities), this service will give you information for finding a job if you are a disabled graduate.
The Graduate Careers Shop
You can get career and interview coaching and CV reviews through this paid service offered by the University of London.
Learndirect
They provide courses and programmes for businesses and individuals in maths, English, IT or business and management.
Local Job Centres
Job centres are a great place to find work as they advertise local full and part-time work. You can also find information on how to find jobs. Some job centres have job clubs where you can find help with your CV, or have computers and newspapers available for your use. Some even offer financial help for your job hunting, such as the cost of travelling to interviews.
My Prospects
You can register with My Prospects if you are an EU national. They provide free interactive information in the form of prospect planners, careers forums, virtual careers fairs and job vacancies sent to your mobile or email. You can also sign up for charged services such as email access to a careers advisor, and CV check or evaluation and psychometric assessments.
National Careers Service
The National Careers Service was launched on 5 April 2012 and provides services for all adults in England. This includes finding jobs, writing CVs and improving your interview skills.
Refugee Assessment and Guidance Unit (RAGU)
If you are a refugee with a high level education or professional qualification, RAGU will help you to find employment. They offer one-to-one guidance and help with re-qualification and entry or re-entry into education. It is part of the London Metropolitan University.
