Hospitality and Event Management
Jodi Newton (nee Cornofsky)
BA (Hons) International Hospitality Management, 1996
On completion of my degree I worked in events management within hotels and venues for 6 years. I heard about Parkeray, my current company by chance and they were looking for a marketing assistant, which I was lucky enough to get. The position allowed me to make the industry change I wanted but to still use the skills I'd learnt.
Parkeray are a commercial fit-out contractor. I am responsible for in-house event management (customers and staff), CRM installation and management, brand management, and site Health & Safety/ branding set-up. I am happy to stay at Parkeray for the foreseeable future and am currently studying for my CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing which I hope to complete by the end of this year.
The basic management skills that I learnt as part of my degree (accounts, marketing etc) have been invaluable. The year's placement undertaken as part of the course syllabus prepared me for the workplace environment. The friends I made are still my closest friends today and some of us work in and around the industry and so cross professional paths cross every now and then.
My conference & banqueting experience has certainly helped me in my current role, through time management skills, co-ordination, people management and extensive knowledge of venues in and around London.
Throughout my studies I worked in a local pub during term time and for catering companies at major sporting events during the holidays. It was all extremely useful for my chosen field
