Santander University of Brighton Student Awards for Community Engagement and Volunteering

Seven awards worth £1,000 each, funded by Santander Universities, are available to recognise outstanding contributions in the fields of community engagement and volunteering by current University of Brighton students.

Organisations are invited to nominate their student volunteer, with the winning student and organisation receiving £500 each.  Reasons for nomination may include the volunteer going above and beyond their role, it may be that the volunteering they did had a particular community impact, but it can be anything that the organisation feels was particularly great about having the student volunteer.  Students who have volunteered in the 2011-12 academic year are eligible for nomination.

Download further information (pdf 69k) and and a nomination form (word 32kb).

Nominations should give as much detail as possible, highlighting why the organisation thinks the student is outstanding.

Send to Santander@brighton.ac.uk by Friday 25 May 2012 at midnight.

The benefits

If you are interested in working in community, public, or educational settings of any kind, this is a great opportunity to gain hands on experience in a safe and supported environment. It’s also an exciting opportunity to work with artist/filmmaker Annis Joslin.

It’s also a chance to get involved with Brighton Photo Biennial (BPB), an international festival of photography showcasing work by a range of international artists. In the past, student volunteers working on similar projects have gone on to gain places on PGCEs, or employment as artists in community or educational settings, or as workshop leaders. BPB have been happy to write references as and when it is appropriate.
