Students project work benefits KTP Partner Company
February 26, 2013 at 1:27 PM
Two final year students and a group of engineering Masters students are working on dedicated projects for one of our KTP company partners, Dando Drilling International Ltd. The company was already working with the University on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership to improve the design and manufacture of their mobile drilling rigs, and the opportunity to set up student projects was suggested at an early stage in the project.
Dr Derek Covill, Senior Lecturer, in the School of Computing Engineering and Maths, recently took the group of engineering students to Dando Drilling’s premises, to present their projects to the company. Each project has a different focus, from designing a new component to reviewing parts of the company’s design process.
Derek said: “They’re bringing fresh ideas, and young minds to an age old problem: how do we drill down to that water/mineral/heat source as quickly and efficiently as possible!”
