"For my placement year, I worked as a Software Engineer at the global company, Xerox. My job role entailed creating automated software that ultimately would save the company thousands of dollars in manufacturing costs every year. The first thing that I benefited from by doing a placement was the application process – it provided an opportunity to improve my interview and assessment day skills and bring my CV to a professional level. By completing a placement year at Xerox, I was able to gain a huge amount of relevant industrial experience – this level of the insight is just not possible to attain during your degree without a placement. This relevant and current experience really does set you apart from other candidates when it comes to searching for graduate roles after completion of your degree. I also believe, working full-time for a solid year introduces a new work ethic that would otherwise be completely unknown prior to entering the working world.  My final grade was a high 2:1, I left the university not only with more work experience than other candidates, but also a complete and professional CV, interview experience and a great insight into how the working world operates in a field relevant to my award. I think it is also relevant to mention that I now have a graduate role that began straight after my final year was completed and during the application process, all the experiences I had attained over the last four years came to light."

Tim Searle, BSc (Hons) Computer Science, completed his undergraduate placement with Xerox.
