How can you Recruit an Undergraduate Placement Student?
Throughout the recruitment process the dedicated Faculty Placements Office is on hand to offer support, which continues throughout the duration of the entire placement.
We provide a professional, efficient and free service to companies, advising organisations on how to attract students to their positions and market their vacancies effectively, we advertise the opportunities on the company’s behalf, and we provide continued support throughout the recruitment process, saving the company time, money and effort.
The typical recruitment process for recruiting a placement student is:
- Employers identify a need within their company that an undergraduate student can fulfil.
- The employer creates a job description which is then emailed to the Faculty Placements Office.
- The Faculty Placements Office advertises the placement opportunity on the bespoke student website and through targeted promotion of the position across relevant disciplines with the support of academic tutors.
- Students either apply directly to the employer or applications are collated by the Faculty Placement Office and then passed on to the employer.
- The employer shortlists students and invites them for interview/assessment day either directly or through the Faculty Placement Office.
- Once selected by the employer, the successful student is offered the placement position which, if accepted, is confirmed by a contract from the employer.
- The student successfully completes their placement year with the company during which time they will be required to complete the relevant assessment work and be supported by an academic tutor who will visit them at least once during the year.
- Following the placement the student returns to the university to complete their final year.
- Many organisations remain in contact with their placement student during their final year with the intent of offering a graduate level job following graduation.
