This course will benefit anyone who wants to gain practical marketing and sales knowledge. It is ideal for businesses and departments who need to become more customer and market focused, or for people moving from a technical role to a more business focused role.

The course is also appropriate for those wishing to refresh and enhance existing experience or training and is relevant both to those marketing a product or a service. It does not require previous formal marketing experience or training.

The course contains practical, useful advice from week one, enabling you to start using tools immediately. It builds steadily and thoroughly, delivering essential information from marketing basics to higher level principles. By the end of the course you will not only have an understanding of a range of powerful marketing tools, but also a clear understanding of their practical implementation and implications.

The course is made up of a mix of formal lecture and group seminar discussion. You will be encouraged to discuss how the tools taught relate to your own chosen product or service. You will learn by explaining your approaches to others and by listening to and commenting on how others interpret the tools.

The course tutor is Emmet Hayes, who has over 30 years experience of working in industry in a wide range of consulting training, sales, marketing and business development roles. He is a visiting lecturer at the University of Brighton, sharing his knowledge of marketing, innovation and creativity with students at first degree and masters level.

Delegates successfully completing the optional assessment at the end of the course will be awarded 10 masters level CATS (Credit Accumulation Transfer System) points. The assessment is in the form of a marketing plan which can be any product or service you choose and can therefore be of direct relevance to your organisation.
