In these courses you will combine theory with practical project work, designing, building and testing your own creations from the first year.
If you choose one of our engineering degree courses, you will be taught by a team of dedicated staff and will be joining a university that prides itself on its friendly, open atmosphere.

Honours degree
- Digital Electronics, Computing and Communications BEng (Hons)
- Electrical and Electronic Engineering BEng (Hons)
The two courses above are also available with an integrated foundation year
Master of engineering
In the Digital Electronics, Computing & Communications degree, you will learn about the technology that goes into mobile phones, data networks and the internet, digital signal processing, image processing, microcontrollers and much more. Digital electronics, computer hardware and software and communications technology are balanced with a broad engineering education to prepare you for this fast-moving arena.
Recent final year projects included:
- Controlling radio rake receivers
- USB protocol analyser
- Transmission Control Protocol embedded controller
- Implementation and application of the Hough Transform
- A secure data communications system using infra-red
- Mobile communications links
- Multipath signal processing for wireless communications.
The Electrical and Electronic Engineering degrees include many of the same modules as Digital Electronics, but you specialise in your final year with modules on high-voltage systems, semi-conductor devices, converter circuits and electro-magnetic compatibility.
Final year projects have included:
- Current-mode controlled dc-dc converter
- A biosensor to detect bacteria
- Harmonic detection in electrical fault signals
- Testing the effects of electrical transients on broadcast transmitters
- Motor control with Kalman filtering
- Condition monitoring of high voltage dielectric fluids.
In the MEng degrees, you will spend your extra year learning business processes to prepare you for a high-level career and undertaking an interdisciplinary team project to get hands-on practice in a real-life situation. This will complete the educational requirements for becoming a Chartered Engineer.
