"Rotating Energy Storage – a case study in Innovation" by Dr Andrew Atkins of Ricardo.
This lecture was presented to the MSc students from both Automotive Electronic Engineering and Automotive Engineering at Brighton. Using flywheel storage as an example, Dr Atkins presented many factors that impinge on the innovation of new products. With a talk that embraced psychology, evolutionary theory, legislation, technology, finance, safety and many other disciplines, Dr Atkins demonstrated admirably how flexibility of mind and approach are vital if we are to innovate. Having very much a “systems” orientation this talk provided an excellent backdrop to the technical challenges being addressed in automotive engineering today and provided a framework for future development.
